![]() A crowd of around 100 enjoyed Nigel Short’s lecture in Sydney on Tuesday
night (22 March 2016). He analysed two of his recent games from the
Ballarat Begonia tournament, interspersing them with fragments from
previous games, anecdotes and insights. It was good to see a number of people who had been absent from the chess scene for a while, together with Norths Chess Club regulars and new faces. There were no quick knock-downs in the simul and after two-and-a-half hours all games were still in progress. The last game concluded at around midnight with Nigel amassing a score of 27 wins and 3 draws. As usual, the grandmaster ‘got’ a number of his opponents in the endgame! Congratulations to David Marsh, David James and Clive Ng for achieving the draws. It was an enjoyable evening and great for Norths Chess Club to be able to host an event that brought chess players from across the Sydney region together. The drawn games can be viewed in the Chesschat thread @ http://www.chesschat.org/showthread.php?16219-Nigel-Short-lecture-and-simul-Sydney-March-22-2016&p=408401&viewfull=1#post408401 The full playing field was:
