Gary Armstrong, our dedicated Equipment Officer and Committee Member since 2016, plays a pivotal role in making Norths Chess Club the professional and welcoming environment it is today.

Some years ago, Gary saw the need for better equipment management and took on the responsibility, a task that has since grown significantly. His attention to detail ensures that the 120+ players who join us on a Tuesday night walk into a well-organised, professional environment. Gary not only keeps our equipment current and well-maintained but also manages the vital relationship with the Norths Events Team.

A Perfectionist in Action:

• Arrives three hours before play to set up and is the last to leave, often past midnight.
• Designed and 3D printed each of the new tournament table numbers, complete with our club’s name on the back—a perfect example of his innovative contributions.
• Quietly supports members who might be going through challenges, showing kindness behind the scenes.
• Welcomes and supports newer members, helping them feel part of the Norths family.
